our founder
Younity Birthwork was created from the pure passion and education of Sylvester Pierce. His passion was ignited from the birth of his seven nephews, with the privilege of witnessing two being born and assisting with one. While supporting his sister cope with a miscarriage, he realized the need of maternal care within the community. Thus, he began his birthwork journey in 2015. He sought out the counsel of local doulas and midwives and was blessed with the knowledge of their gifted hands, hearts and experiences.
In 2023 he graduated from Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies’ Building Perinatal Support Professional program, and obtained his first doula certification with Earth Mama Naturals. His second doula certification came in 2024 under Innerlight Holistic Doula, where he is continuing his year long initiation and year(s) long mentoring under Mama Shaconna Haley. He is currently studying for his Community Breastfeeding Specialist with Ready Set Push! and Lactation Education Resources.
His organization, Younity Birthwork, centers the mother’s decisions and emotions, advocates for positive reproductive health and justice, and supports the entire family from pre-conception to postpartum.
